Stuck in the mud….

Yes… up to the edge of my booties..! Sometimes sand isnt all it seems to be. Took
me a while to clean the gear after this. Got a couple that I like…. 3 shot panos with
    5D2 and 24mm TS Lens.

    Salterstown beach last Monday evening….

Very nice Richie, particularly the second of these…

There is a lovely implied lead in from those rocks in the bottom
right corner, and the 50/50 split works exceptionally well…

I do like the first image too, though not as much. I think the
middleground may be just a little busy for me…

both lovely! i guess sunset and sunrise right?

    you really catched the peace!

    Looks good Richie.

Quick question.. it looks like you used ND grads here. Can you use these with the TSE?

    Thanks guys…..

Rob…. I am with ye on the first image… a bit too much going on and a bit too dark I think. But I like the colours.

Madeleine…. Cheers for the comment. Both actually taken within minutes of one another. The difference being the direction
I was pointing the camera. The 1st I pointed it directly towards where the sun had set and the 2nd towards The Mournes where
that last bit of light was just catching the tip of the highest cloud.

Sean…. Yeah no problems using ND Grads and the 24 TS. Except that is when you shift into the red zones. The first image here
used a 3 stop Grad and 3 stop ND. I cropped the sides of the image as there was soooo much vignetting. The second has not got
as much vignetting. Only used a 2 stop grad on it.

I have to say I am getting addicted to the large Pano/Letterbox format. My problem is that they cant really be appreciated on the
internet. There is so much detail in these that a print is the best way to view. The leveling head on the tripod had made it so easy
to get good results when doing this stuff (cheers for that advice Steve Crozier…!)

I take it that you are rotating the tripod head rather than simply using the shift function
of the lens from full left to full right? Are you using the tilt?

    Hi Richie,

I like these 2 a lot, very simple and beautiful colouring.

The pano’s are addictive especially with a shift lens.

    Hi Richie,

    I like these especially #1.

I didn’t notice the “…. bit too much going on…” when I first viewed.

Didn’t bother me on subsequent viewing either.
Reminds me a bit of those space films with the cosmic debris rushing past.
I think it’s the extra colour in #1 that I like.

Hope it wasn’t the 5D you were cleaning.

    Nicely done.

    John.

    heh thanks guys

Robert…. Nope … just using the shift left and right. Having the head 100% level makes putting them
together a doddle in PS. I normally get my exposure correct first then start from the side that the clouds
are moving from (if long exposures are required) and shift twice. Yes I could just spin the tripod head either
but shifting makes everything sooooo much easier and clean…!

Alan… yes very addictive but I just dont know what to do with them now. Cant afford to be printing em all big…!

John… Thankfully it wasnt the 5D I was cleaning. My new (supposedly waterproof grrrrrrrrr) North Face boots
needed a bath as well as my remote release which got its second dunking in saltwater and is still going strong.

    Thanks for the comments

OK, but the only difficulty is that the shift is not about the no parallax point, so close foregrounds can be tedious.

There are no real problems with close foreground items with the shift option
(apart from stuff close to the edge getting stretched). Its definitely more problematic
when rotating the camera and having stuff close to you.

    Ye know what I mean….?

Just an update on these shots… A modified version of the second one is going to be used in the new A+E section of the Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda. It’ll be printed 7mx2.9m high…!!!! It was originally to be an image of Drogheda that I took but they changed their minds..! I’m happy regardless.
