Hey guys,
wondering if someone may have some suggestions as to how I can best replicate a shot in terms of studio lighting setup & camera settings. I’m basically trying to replicate the same shot as seen in the attached pictures. The pictures are taken from a website where you can change the colour of the tshirt online. With that said, I’m unsure what colour they originally shot – white? black? a colour? Is there anything we can say about the shots which may indicate the original colour of the tshirt that they shot?
As you may see, the light source is quite harsh which shows great detail of the fabric texture – this I guess was the main goal of their setup and is what I’m also trying to achieve. Would anyone have any experience of shooting something like this or have any general advice how this detail is best achieved?
Any thoughts welcomed!
Thank you,
Marvin.
Hi Marvin, I presume the colour bits are all taken care of in Photoshop, which is not really my area. The lighting however I would describe as more directional than harsh. I would expect to achieve a similar result by using one main light with a reasonable sized softbox to the left and either a fill light, again with softbox to the right at a lower power setting. You could possibly get a similar result just using the main light and a large reflector on the right.
Hey thanks a lot for your reply BarkerPhotography. Since my last post I have managed to make 1 big soft box which uses 5 25W CFLs and a reflector. This is however the only ‘professionalish’ light equipment I have. Would I be able to use something household for the top main light? Based on the examples, do these main top light(s) require diffusion? Perhaps I could make another box and mount it to the ceiling from chains.
