There is a samba festival in Tokyo every summer, I got my digicam out for the day.
I was on the wrong side of the street light-wise but lucky to have a gang of people sitting in front of me who wear livily and attracted the performers.
It was a fun day.
One thing that comes across really strongly, and its something I mighn’t have associated with the Japanese, is that in all the photos they seem to be having super fun, that they are really enjoying themselves and letting loose. I always saw them as a reserved people. Re your comment on the light, and where you are standing, I wouldn’t have noticed only that you mentioned it. The exposures seem very good. Its great that the subject are facing directly towards you. Numbers 2, 4 and 8 I think are my favourites, the matador is taking it so seriously…..I wonder how he would do in front of a bull.
Cheers Liam,
the Japanese do party, and the contrast between their serious daytime demeanour and night-time letting loose is quite remarkable.
I did, in selecting the images to post, look for the best facial expressions (well except for one photo) that captured the atmosphere.
For me #1 is my fav.
