Folks
I know these might not be the best shots technically but i’m trying to learn. So my question is which shot works best. Same shot just different crop. Very little pp done just warmed it up a little and adjusted contrast.
C & C welcome and appreciated
nfl-fanParticipantIn my humble opinion I think the 2nd shot is better as there’s too much water in the first and it unbalances the composition.
I’d also recommended having the sun less central in the composition… moving it to the left or right. Something along the lines of the below, but in reality I would have composed it better at the camera stage.
Not sure if you were using a Grad filter(s) here…. but if you could hold back that sun a little I think the image would look better… the sun itself isn’t bad but the two bright spots above it sort of distract just a little.
Soom good tips on this thread for shooting into the sun on this thread: https://www.photographyireland.net/viewtopic.php?t=12772

Mr.HParticipantI personally think the crop works better on this one although its a difficult call as you do lose thelovely reflection on the water.
I think my first bit of advice would be to play with the positioning of the sun for future work. Dead centre isn’t necessarily the most interesting place to put the focal point in any image. Compositionally try to position it a third of the way into the image.

istauntonParticipantCheers for the help folks.
Am awaiting on the arrival of a couple of ND filters and since that photo i have got an ND grad but its a screw on so a little bit limited. Your crop defo works better John should have done the same myself but got a bit cought up in deciding to lose the water or not.
Just on a side not only found this forum a recently and i have to admit i’m very impressed. Spent a lot of time just reading post and trying to pick up with i can and have to admit it has been a lot. Even found out we have an Irish Airforce :) . Keep up the good work folks and hopefully i’ll learn a lot more from you guys. Especially the regular posters you know who you are (didnt take me long to find out who you where either)
Cheers
