Sunsets finally back in the sunny south east
-
JMcLParticipant
It must be winter, sunsets are starting to become feasible again on the Waterford coast after yez northern lads hogging them all summer. Here’re 2 from last night, and one from the night before where the sun didn’t play ball. Any comments as always welcome!

Mr.HParticipantneilmcshaneParticipant3 wonderful images John.
I can’t pic a winner. It’s between 1,2 or3. :DNeil
andy mcinroyParticipantGreat work John,
All beautiful. Not much more to say really. Superb.

j_machaleParticipantI’d have to agree John – I love them all!! I thought the first was my fav looking at them here but after seeing the large versions I think the second one is the winner. If I was to be really pedantic (purely out of jealousy of course!) I’d say that the horizons in the first two is just a touch off level and that would annoy me after paying ?5000 for it :)
Great work!
John.
JMcLParticipantThanks guys, much appreciated!

I couldn’t quite make up my mind whether the horizons were off, I had a spirit level on the camera that said they shouldn’t be, but I rotated a smidgen anyway. It’s just occurred to me though that it might be a touch of lens distortion. This is nowhere near as noticeable in general on the Sigma 10-20 as it was on my old Canon 18-55mm kit, but there is a tiny bit. I should have really run them through PTLens first., but I’m only thinking of that now!

TompixBandonMemberYes, smashing images. The larger versions on flickr are wonderful.
Tom.
richiehatchMemberStunning work John…! Nothing to add to what was already said…!
Richie
StevenHannaMember3 great images.
I especially like the 2nd one. I’m drawn to the texture of the foreground rocks, they are almost glistening.Good work.

sean1098MembermkrzysztofowiczParticipantwow…
usually I don’t like HDR (I saw that your pictures were tagged with HDR on Flickr) but if these are HDR, well, I’m blown away :)
And if they are not HDR, well… I’m blown away even more so :)
Excellent! I’m really jealous…
If I was to choose, it is the second one for me. I love landscape photography shot in portrait orientation if they work. The rocks on the right hand side are a nice lead in line… :) dang, i’m jealous :)
Best Regards,
mikeRobMemberGorgeous work John. Too difficult to choose a favourite,
each one’s a stunner…Rob.
MDCPhotographyParticipantMarkKeymasterJMcLParticipantMany thanks for all the comments folks, much appreciated!
mkrzysztofowicz: I know what you mean about HDR – I’ve tried using Photomatix and it’s never worked for me personally, and I’m not sure I like that HDR “look” anyway. I combine these in Photoshop using layer masks with bracketed exposures and/or multiply developed RAWs which gives me the control to pick out the bits of each layer that have the right exposure for the final image. It’s more like an ND filter really, albeit one that doesn’t have to have a straight transition!
