Here is a image taken from the post “A Long Days Shoot” in the Landscape forum. It was taken on Dollymount Beach.

I see you’ve broken your day out into manageable chunks!! You got a great depth of strong images there.

I like the sepia toning. The atmosphere is good. I can imagine being on the beach at the end of a day watching this kite surfer lazily carve between the waves. The reflections on the water are nice. If you showed most people they’d think it lovely.

From an anal photographers point of view. The focus seems to be on the wave behind the kitesurfer and as a result he is a bit soft. It also looks like the shutter hasn’t quite frozen his hand/the boom.

You have captured the expression in his face well; a determined grimace as he steers the kite into the wind.

He is part silhouetted, part not quite silhouetted. As a result I feel like I’m missing detail on his body (oh errr…). Perhaps try darkening the surfer so that he is a full silhouette.

Great work. I’m still really impressed with the depth of that day’s shoot!

    Pete,
You are right about the focus and blur.
This is new to me !
The usual shots I take don’t move (landscapes).
This was a full frame image ie not croped. I think I have some more images but they will have to be croped and enlarged. Will look again and post some more.

    Thanks and Regards

Really like the first version. Very nice. I’m not sure about the crop? I think either landscape or portrait would work really well.
    Lovely tones :).

First one is a better comp as the Surfer is surfing into the shot, and the cables are going in front of him. That’s just how the eyes see it.

Both good. get your feet wet taking these, or have a stonking long lens? :-)

    Hi Merv,

No feet got wet taking these images. Ok I did use a 70-200 +1.4x + 1.6 for sensor making a grant total of 400+. But the surfers come in very close to the shore line.

    Regards Neil
