Sweetie Traffic Lights

I not quite sure if these shots should be macro or here. I’ll post them here for now and move them if needs be. A few weeks ago after reading about food photography I went through a phase of photographing various types of sweets. On the day I was only able to get some orange drops, winegums and clove rocks. I intend to try out some other types shortly. C & C most welcome

RobertoMemberThe concept and idea is very good but not as a food photography.
You can build on this and make some very good series of Sweetie traffic lights. Need just put more imaginations and different photo technics, lights, background…..
I don’t have any idea what I would do but it can come up with good idea as perfect shots.tatianaMemberPhotographing food is quite challenging I must admit. Despite everything looks “simple” on the final picture, it is a hard work to get this look. So well done on trying it (at last somebody else interested in food).
As for your photographs…I see backlight there which is good. This will be all I’m afraid. There are much more should be done to achive that “tasty” and attractive look. This what is our goal, right?
I think you should work more and harder on composition (arrangement; there is no need always use a bunch of objects, one or two might be enough), shooting distance and angle (try low angle). It’ll take loads of time and patience. Lighting wise – make it cleaner and lighter when using light background. Those jellies can be quite confusing subject sometimes so it’s better to decide wether you go closer/abstract with nice colours and transparency or you let us know what it is (jellies). In that case using additional props can improve the picture.
Wishing you luck and expect to see new (improved) food pictures :)griangrafParticipantCheers for the advice one & all,
These shots were a bit of a first pass at anything like this. I have to agree with Tatiana that food photography is very challenging. I attempted the takes shots of various types of biscuits and I found making it anyway interesting very difficult.
I have included a few attempts at macros on rich tea biscuits!! There not the greatest. Maybe I need a day off or two.tatianaMemberthese ones look better meaning light (well done) and angle, especially a second shot. You see how lower angle and depth of field works? :)
Still good composition/arrangement should be done. This is a very tricky part..sometimes it takes days to get one right. Regular patterns often look boring..what if rotate an image a bit to give diagonal direction – might look attractive. I also would suggest to “clean up” some spots which might be destructive.
Wishing you a luck, keep up a food work :DgriangrafParticipant
