Nice couple of shots here, well done. In the first shot, you’ve captured the determination and tough-as-nails attitude of the lead rider and the strong pace she’s setting is clearly taking it’s toll on the following competitors. The DOF is good and the almost equal spacing between the riders is leading to an interesting composition.
The second shot works well as a close-up, in-your face action shot. The only problem I see with the shot is that the blurred light rays are forward of the cyclist giving the impression she is actually moving backwards (possible…. but unlikely!) :) Possibly your flash was synchronised at the default ‘first curtain sync’, firing immediately after the shutter opened rather than at the second or rear curtain and creating light rays behind the moving subject. On the 20D, the shutter curtain sync is the 15th custom function; I’m not sure if it’s the same across the Canon range.
