Takeoff

I suppose of all the photographs I have taken this one means a lot to me. Mainly because of the effort that went into getting it.

A couple of years before I got a really good shot of a puffin as he was taking off. The shot was probably technically better than this. The only problem was that the top of the wings was clipped off. Last year I set out to get one with the full wing span. I tried and tried but didn’t seem to get the vital moment. I was either too late or too early. I went home disappointed after taking scores of shots. When going through them I realised that I had one, and only one that had got the moment. Boy was I pleased. I will post the first one later in the thread.

It was taken on Skellig Michael.

Every time I see that shot it just blows me away. Absolutely fantastic!
I’ve been going down there for my whole life but never went onto the Skelligs, gonna have to make time for a trip out there at some stage.

great shot. love the fact the whole of the puffin and foreground rock are in-focus.

did you have to prod them to get them to jump?:)

This is excellent :) Love it, love the shallow depth of field, the colours, the detail in the stone, perfect.
Now who was it that asked if Puffins tasted like chicken? :) Well done Valentia !

Looks to me like it was worth the effort to get this shot. It certainly works for me big time.
Lovely colours, nice and sharp, good focus, DOF. I’d love to get out there for some wildlife photography.

Just a point of information for anyone thinking of going to the Skelligs. If you want to see puffins go between May and mid July. Don’t leave it any later. The puffins dissapear overnight, fly out to the atlantic and do not see land again until sometime the following April when they return to the same nest.

Valentia as you say a pity about the wing being cut off other than that a brilliant shot.
As for what Ali said
