Taking Camera on Holidays

Hey all
I am going to Zakynthos on my jolly days and I want to take my snapper with me, I presume that I just carry it on as hand luggage?? I have little saches of silica gel in my bag to make sure it soaks up any moisture, is there anything else I need to know?

MartinOCParticipantHand luggage is best.
I remember reading somewhere about a consumer program that put an instrument into a suitcase to detect shock and clearly marked the suitcase as fragile.
When they checked the results after the flight they found it had been subjected to a shock equivalent to a 2 meter drop.I often bring camera and lens through airports no problem. I would suggest a good bag that will keep the sand (and rain) out doesn’t obviously look like a camera bag.

fionawysecrillyParticipantHi Martin
Thanks for that, I have a lowe pro bag that I bought with the camera, it can fit the camera and 2 lens, I presume it’s fine to use this?
MartinOCParticipantfionawysecrillyParticipantcathaldParticipantJust back from a weeks holidays myself and I took lots of memory
16 gig which was more than enough for me any how
I took a 17-70 and 70-300 lens which was good enough to shoot anything I needed

5faytheParticipantHi Fiona,
I take my camera with me on the plane.
Wouldn’t like to have it out of my sight.I put a very expensive guitar through normal baggage about
25 years ago and happened to be looking out the window while
waiting for the baggage to be unloaded.
The handler picked up the case and flung it through the opening
on to the carousel.
The case was slightly damaged but thankfully the guitar was fine.I have always used my camera bag as my hand luggage.
I put stuff like spare battery, charger and memory cards into
my main luggage and use the spare room in the bag for other bits and
pieces necessary for the journey.I used to bring a laptop (impatience to see shots) but gave that up
a few years ago as an unnecessary inconvenience.I hope you have a great holiday and get loads of keepers.
Cheers,
John.
