Music line up for the Tall ships are Sharon Shannon, The waterboys and Brian Ferry……wonder if they were picked on their ” Tall ships” themed names???
And all Music events are open air and Freeee!!!
Can’t say any fairer then that in these recession times.
damien.murphyParticipantJust seen the Brian Ferry announcement a few days ago. It’s a real coup for the organisers to rustle up such big names, and even more so, that they are free! Had hoped to avoid getting excited about the Tall Ships at this point, but it’s proving pretty difficult :)
miki gParticipantThe Ard ri (ex hotel) grounds will be the area that the fireworks displays will be launched from & is closed to the public for safety / security reasons.
damien.murphyParticipantPity about that Miki, was up there in ’05 and it makes for a hell of a view of the city, especially for a panorama or two..
miki gParticipantHi Damien.
There is an excellent view from an outcrop of rock a little further upriver which can be accessed from the Sallypark side (with a bit of effort). This would give a great view of the ships coming up the river & the entire city panorama too.damien.murphyParticipanthennaParticipantCan’t help wondering if the fireworks are being launched from Ard Ri where are they going to land once they’ve ignited ???
I’m imagining being bombarded around WVW Plaza with stray fireworks…!!!
Note to self……bring large umbrella…and WW2 helmet…..!! :-) :-)
damien.murphyParticipantLol, don’t worry, I imagine they shall be launched from the Ard Rí to explode over the Suir. I knew we liked our fireworks in Waterford, but it will be great to see so much of them – just hope the winds and weather play ball :)
miki gParticipantTraffic restrictions update: WITH the exception of emergency, essential delivery vehicles and taxis, no motorised traffic will be allowed into the city centre over the three days of the visit of the Tall Ships from June 29 to July 3.
A traffic cordon is to be put in place but it will be substantially less than the restriction implemented when the Tall Ships last visited in 2005.
Three Park and Ride facilities will be provided — two in Newrath and one at Carrickphierish for traffic coming from Co. Waterford and Cork.
Altogether there will be 30,000 car parking spaces available and a fleet of over 100 buses will run continuously, up to 2am each morning, from the Park and Ride locations to the city.
A flat all-in daily charge of €10 per car will apply, with the fee including a free copy of the official brochure that will be on sale in the city.
The charge, however, will not apply before 10am each day to facilitate those working in the city centre and visitors arriving early to avoid peak crowds. To supplement the fleet of buses, those returning to their cars will also be facilitated with safe walking routes to ease delays at peak times.steelydanParticipantTickets for the concerts Sharon Shannon, waterboys and Bryan Ferry, even though free, you will ahve to apply for them online from may 18th, just to keep numbers to a minimum due to safety.
Will let you know where to apply

**ALL ONLINE CONCERT TICKETS ALLOCATED**
All the online tickets have been scooped up.
Further free tickets for all three concerts will be distributed at John Roberts Square in Waterford City from 11am on Saturday, 4th JunemrstobinParticipantHi everyone,
Fairly new to this forum/ photography in general, but I’m a Deise Woman and just saw this post on the Tall Ships! I’ve heard alot of people are having difficulty getting accomodation..whether its booked out or just over priced I’m not sure. But if anyone is travelling in a group, I’d recommend giving W.I.T a call?
I’m a former student, and our gang have had a few summer reunions where the college has rented out student accomodation over the summer for very good value! Now I’m not sure who exactly to contact down there, but it might be worth a try and hope everyone enjoys it wherever they lay there heads :)
SeaviewParticipantNow that’s it’s nearly here I’m wondering are we going to hold a mini meet, I’m heading down early on Saturday and would love to meet any other PI members who are heading down. Maybe even just for a coffee and quick chat. Any ideas.
Dave.
