Tamron 11-18mm
-
DenverDollParticipant
Does anyone have and opinion of the Tamron 11-18mm f/4.5-5.6~~
Looking for that wonderful wide angleness..
and have already pretty well researched the Canon 10-22mm, the Sigma 10-20mm and the Tokina 12-24mm.
Thanks a mil,
SharMartinParticipantNot supposed to be a great lens, id stay away from it and go with the Canon, Tokina or Sigma before this guy
Build quality is supposed to be not great also.
Another one not on your list is the Tokina 11-16 2.8, this is a new lens not much known about it yet, but any review i have read rate it very high
If money is not an issue go with the Canon
M
DenverDollParticipantThanks for that advice Martin~~much appreciated.
Now I have added the Tokina 11-16mm to my considerations.
If no one else disagrees that the Canon 10-22mm would be preferred, then I suppose it is a matter of how long I’d be willing to wait to spend the extra money..right?
Just have to see how patient I can be unless someone else has a really good argument for one of the other lenses?
Thanks again!

I have the 10-22 and i just love it its a great great lens with a L quality (from what Pro’s say)
But there is a tokina 11-16mm F.2.8 that is new i think is just out in Japan for the moment, and from what ived heard its better then the 10-22 but i still got the 10-22 maybe check out that tokine :)DenverDollParticipantDuchovny~~
That Tokina 11-16mm is less expensive, so I will wait and see a few more reviews of it.
I think I will end up choosing between it and the Canon. I need to save more money for the Canon and so it suits well that the Tokina doesn’t seem to be available yet. Works out perfectly in fact!
Patience, patience~~ I need patience.

Yeah patience its very hard i know :P
From what ived seen Tokina should be better then Canon, but i still end up buying canon, canon is canon and i always have questions about 3rd party lens…
I got my Canon on ebay and was only 100€ more then the 10-20 from sigma so about the same price as the tokina.DenverDollParticipantHey Duchovny~~
I checked out your Deviantart. Great stuff on there.
Of course, I put it all down to your photography, not your excellent lenses :D
And yeah, I’ve gone a long time without the lenses, I can definitely wait to make up my mind, but it’s down to those two now :D

It’s easily the sharpest lens I own (and I own a few!). Will be giving it a test out tomorrow in real life conditions.
DenverDollParticipantThat’s great news eclipsechaser~~
Please post some of your results here!
Looking forward to it.. :D
Speaking of you having a few lenses…I noticed that most of yours are primes….cool.

I’m in London at the moment. Will post results when I get back on Saturday night. Yes, I’ve a prime collection these days. It used to be just a 17-40, 50, 70-200 and 300. That was a great set at the time but recently I decided to go the prime route and see what that’s like.

Here’s a shot from last week. Tokina 16mm and f/2.8.

Click All sizes to get a view of just how sharp it is. I’ve applied standard USM of 130, 0.3, 1 to the image.
I think it’s pretty amazing for a wide-open shot. Kudos to Tokina.
DenverDollParticipantHi Daniel~~
That is wonderful! I did click through and see the photo…and as well..looked at the rest of your flickr. Very lovely!
Anyway…if you embed the photo here..a lot more people will see it.
Looking forward to a lot more too.
Thanks,
Shar

Here it is. I’m off to China this month so it’ll get a real work-out there. I’ll post more images next month!
Cheers,
Daniel
