Tamron, Tokina or Sigma

    Hi there, I am looking into getting a decent macro lens which comes in under €400 and from my research on the net these 3 seem to be the way to go. Tamron 90mm, Sigma 105mm and the Tokina 100mm. However just as I start to veer in favour of one lens along comes a different opinion for example I was leaning towards the Tokina and then I came across this http://www.ephotozine.com/forums/topic/tokina-100mm-macro-53016″ onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;

    Then to add more confusion I see that the Nikon 105mm is less than €400 but the reviews are mixed too

    So my question to you people is what do you have/favour/recommend. Also if you have any macro shots you have taken with the above mentioned lenses posted here I would be grateful if you could provide the links.

    Thanks in advance,

    Mark.

    Sorry my mistake, the Nikon 105mm at €397 was a starting price for it on ebay so we are back to 3 lens types

    All of them are good macro lenses. Take the one you can get better price.
    Obviously, inspection prior to purchase is highly recommended.

    I have the tameron 90mm for canon and love it. I can use it most of the time freehand and it is good for portraits too. ( have not tried it for that yet though)

    Necro bump! :D

    I looked into all of these when I was looking for a macro to double as a portrait lens. The one that seemed to come out on top overall, across many reviews I read at the time, was the Tamron. very popular macro and portrait lens.

    In the end, I came across a 60mm 2.8 Nikon micro, which I thought would suit my needs more [indoor portraits etc] and It’s been on my camera almost as much as my beloved Tamron 17-50 2.8 since.

    All of them will do the job, they will all be incredibly sharp and contrasty. They all do 1:1 – though some extend a lot more than others. My 60mm doesn’t extend very much at all at 1:1. I doubt any will disappoint. So, go for whichever you can get the cheapest I say :)
