Teach an old dog a new trick…..

As most of you know my line in photography is weddings and portraits, or as some may call it “people photography”. I am heading away for a few day along the Co. Down coast, in around newcastle. Has anyone been down there could point me in an area of intrest and has anyone any tips for landscape photography?

    Derek,

I’m not familiar with country down. But as far as landscape is concerned, just chase the light. We will soon convert you to the joys of landscape.

Like Andy, I’m not overly familiar with the area, but I have been to Bloody Bridge, Tollymore Forest & Donard Forest Park.

Bloody Bridge is located on the coast road between Newcastle and Kilkeel, there are car park facilities and toilets on the LHS coming from Newcastle.

If you park in the car park at the football pitches in Newcastle, you can then walk up through the forest which will lead you on 1 of the many walks up into the Mournes. Loads of interesting waterfalls and streams etc to explore.

There are also some nice views of the Mournes from the beach.

There’s also the Silent Valley reserviour too.

As Andy says, chase the light. The best times will be early morning or late evening when the sun is a little lower in the sky and therefore the light is a little softer and won’t provide you with really strong harsh shadows.

    Hope that helps.

Yeah as Steve mentioned… if ye head south of Newcastle… I’d say about 2 miles max… there is a car park on your left… the area is called Bloody Bridge… some lovely stuff there…!

Also the beach itself in Newcastle can be nice for some minimal landscape sunrises… Stephen Dickey has a few from there…!
