Howdo new here and this is the first photo I thought I’d put up. I would be very grateful of any CC you guys might have. I did very little with the photo bar up some of the colours slightly and deliberatley left the parking sign in as I think it adds a bit to the overall red and green tint, if that makes sense?[/img]

    Hi Blacktopjunkie,

First off well done for posting your first image here. Keep it up:-)

On the shot itself…yes there are nice colours and the detail in the pavement is nice. I think that the problem with it..if there is one.. is that thre really isn’t any focal interest in the shot. I know you’ve called it Telegraph pole…but all of it is not visible and it is positioned to centrally imo. Maybe if there had been someone leaning against it..or even walking by. For me anyway there just isn’t anything to hold my attention. Yes there are nice colours… but I don’t think that’s enough. Technically I don’t think there’s much wrong with the shot..but believe me..I’m no expert.

Anyway..just my thoughts..keep posting and you’ll start to get more detailed and constructive critique from the more experienced members I’m sure.

    Cheers

Thanks for the comments! You’re totally spot on there. I basically started with wanting to take a photo of the Cherry Blossom but couldn’t get an angle where it wasn’t obscured in some way and tried to use the telegraph pole as a splitting effect with the house on one side etc. In the end the tree is really a blur but I thought it was okay.

As you said it would look better with some kind of focal interest, if only a terrier in a red jacket had strolled into it :)

Thanks for the comments again. When I look at it more objectively now it does seem somewhat bland

Ya know…I’m thinking there has to be an extracurricular career in this. Part time focal interest for photographers..

Become a freelance interest point. Sit on walls with a nice sunset…walk casually past a fairly bland backdrop…and then as the prices go up…more daring stuff like standing out on a rock with the waves thundering in…giving that realistic none posed look as you dive for safety.

Oh I can see it now..my first million is in the bag…Mwaaahahahahah!!

Yeah photo extras. You wouldn’t make as much as models though, and you life insurance would rocket. A whole industry based on extreme extraing!

It did strike me as being a picture of the Cherry Blossom when I saw it first,
and Robbie hit the nail on the head when he mentioned the focal point thing-

Not many of us travel with an angle grinder and chainsaw in our bag,
but if you do get around to the ‘after’ shot,
    I’d like to see it-

Perhaps the act of cutting them down might give it that focal point that Robbie was looking for-

I think I could photoshop them out convincingly, but it’s not a good enough photo to make it worthwhile. I’d have to place my dog in it then!

I like this. Love how you made something so mundane interesting. Perhaps a bit large to be viewed on screen?
Nice colours and nice and sharp too.

Thanks very much. I appreciate the commments greatly. I was suprised at how well it came out. I took it with a pretty rudimentary Fuji camera Finepix s5600 which hasn’t done too well in my attempts to take lanscape shots

The S5600 is a great little camera for what it is :D All of my shots on here..except one…have been taken on it. For a camera that is sub ?250 I don’t think there could be many complaints about it :D

Are you still using it btj or have ya moved on up?

Only got it at Christmas. My old man and me got one each. The last 2 left in the Argos’s in Derry. Clearance sale and all that. I don’t intend on moving up for a very long time to be honest. It’s a good camera and if a photo I take using it doesn’t come out the best it’s usually my own fault. I just need a bigger memory card for it :)

Actually my old man is a bit of an influence on the photography side of things. When he had our house built he had a darkroom built into the garage! Our childhood was spent inhaling chemicals running around in white coats. :)

Odd that. Part of my adolescence was spent running
away from people in white coats…
