the American paradox…

GrahamBParticipant
I wouldn’t worry about it mate. I just got back from doing a fair bit of travelling.
The whole piss head irish thing followed me quiet a bit. The things I’ve heard people say about the Irish are just mental.
I was actually asked by a kiwi in Istanbul ” So what’s it like being in the IRA ” the strange thing was he wasn’t kidding.
We all fall victim to racial stereotypes. Americans are no exception. Granted your current president doesn’t help. Plus
European media can somethimes have a tendancy of only showing us the supersized gun wielding nutters.
Seriously don’t let it get to you.
Besides if you are getting our women you must be doing something right.
Come near mine though and I’ll knee cap ye :lol:Brian_CParticipantYeah dude I wouldn’t get too hung up on it. You’re gonna get a couple of gob-sh1tes where ever you go in life. Most Irish ppl will give anyone a chance before making a judgment and more often than not the judgment will be favorable. As a Dub how has lived in London and Chicago and now living in Belfast, I’ve met my fair share of twats and drunken Irish and IRA jibes. On the whole they turn out to be the small minded ppl of this world. Sure, most of it is banter and just ppl going just a little too far. I think if you really grasp the Irish culture and “go with the flow” so to speak, you’ll be fine. Also, don’t be afraid to give as good as you get.
I think a lot of Irish & European punters see American’s as being “loud n’ in your face” type thing and overly confident. I know they’re not all like that and I deal with American’s on a daily basis and know them to be just like the rest of us.
Now, let’s get on with the business at hand and see some of your photo’s.
RobMemberI wouldn’t worry about it either. The late great Bill Hicks once remarked
during a gag about patriotism “Last time I looked, the world was round…”
There’s a lot to be said for the way he thought.I have one sister living in Texas, married an African American Republican,
and another sister in Germany, married to an Iraqi, converted to Islam;
family get togethers are the most fun you can imagine…Though as a race I’d advise that you learn
how to spell ‘colour’ and pronounce ‘aluminium’… ;)mick451 wrote:

Rob.
johnnycivic66ParticipantHaha, yeah the spelling thing always makes for a good laugh.
Well I suppose you are all right. We’re all different people anyhow, so anyone rushing to judgement is just prejudice anyways. I’ve re-gathered my thoughts and am in better spirits now. Thank you for all the insightful and helpful replies. ;-)
