The Ban GC Debate – This post DOES deserve a reply

Hi All,
I am still fairly new on this site.
From day one I found the “posts since last visit” very useful.
I could click on it and see what was happening since my last time on line.I would look at most posts & decide which were of interest to me.
When I returned I would look at the new threads and any new posts to threads that had
caught my eye on my last visit.
I would ignore posts to old threads that had no interest for me.Having GC included was handy.
It did annoy me “a little” when new threads should really have been
posts to existing threads. But that didn’t seem to happen very often.GC seems, in my opinion, to get a little silly at times.
Serious arguments seemed to develop at times.
These may have been “good natured” between members who
know one other well but how would I know that.
There are times when I have not contributed to a GC debate for fear
of getting caught in the crossfire of what seemed to be a personal argument
between 2 or more members. Some of these, I must say, have been highly entertaining.
The fact that new GC posts are not now included in the “View posts since last visit”
will only mean that I have to adjust slightly the way I view PI but the change seems
to have been made very quickly with contributions to the debate from very few members.Mark: This is just an observation not intended as a criticism. If the GC was not in the
“View posts since last visit” when I joined I would not be lobbying now for its
inclusion.Cheers,
John.
MarkKeymasterThanks for your thoughts John much appreciated.
To be honest, the silliness of the GC section was starting to irritate me somewhat, including
when I search for posts since last visit. So while a few members might have provided their thoughts
on the subject, at the end of the day it only really prompted me to do something which I had
toyed with anyhow. If the GC area returns to the way it was for a long time, I don’t see any reason why I wouldn’t
add them back into the search.Personally the chat section is entertaining 90% of the time but at the same time I don’t want
it taking away from the photography element of the site. PI is a place for people to share their
love of photography, help fellow photographers, gain friendships and generally enjoy all that
photography gives us.Thanks
5faytheParticipantThanks Mark,
I have to agree with everything you say.
I was probably being a little bitchy about a decision being made
before I had a chance to have my say.The “View posts since …” has been kinda slack today. Lets
hope its because everybody is out snappin’ :)Cheers,
John.MarkKeymasterYa, the weekends are always a bit quieter than the weekdays. Usually down to
around 65% in terms of visitors.5faytheParticipantIf IBEC find out I can imagine a headline like:
More working hours lost to PI than absenteeism.
Schhhhhh…
John.
nfl-fanParticipantSo… we’re 5 days gone since the change… how do people find it?
It’s a bit strange… GC has slowed down, or at least it seems that way.
I’m happy enough.
