Is it just me or does Yoshi’s expression seem to say “I know why he’s in here…but why am I ?”
shutterbugParticipantYoshi is getting so BIG! and he is gorgeous, beautiful eyes and those ears….wow
he wont miss a thing you could whisper and he would hear you  Though I dont
think he deserves to be in your sons cage! :lol:markst33ParticipantThanks Jenny. Hes a handsome dog alright….and incredibly strong. He still thinks Sean is his slightly less hairy sibling too.
seanyMemberBeen around dogs all my life and I would be more than a little worried by this situation,
Never like to see children in such close confinement with a large dog!!!
macmanParticipantBeautiful dog…. let him out…!
Leave the misguided Chelsea fan caged….!!:-)
markst33ParticipantBeen around dogs, German Shepherds in particular, my whole life too.
Macman, the amount of people who have alluded to that is amazing. :)
Paul WhParticipantWhere do you start on an image like this, you say the dog is strong and yet you’ve put a little boy in a closed confined cage, why are the guys on PI allowing an image like this online, why did you risk your boy for an image, what would childline think of an image like this ?
RASMITH32MemberWhen I saw this image first I felt annoyed . It doesnt work for me on any front and is wrong on many.
But then as I thought about it I thought it was very representitive of people attitudes towards their dogs these days, they seem to now be an a par with people!.
Whether its sparky being brought to the shop in a knitted jacket with her hair in a cute pony tail , the dog jumping around the car as someone drives on motorway at 100KMH or whether its the look you get from a dog walker after you have told them to keep their dog under control as it is off a lead and has just freighted the sh*te out of your 6 year old on her bike.
For me this shot is a microcosim of society and their deteriorating (possibly subconscious) attitude towards people and animals in general………so I guess on a certain front…..it makes the shot a good shot…..albeit by default.
Not a personal attack on the taker ……just my own thoughts ……
markst33ParticipantFirst of all, no one here knows the type of personality, age or relationaship Yoshi has with the family and he with them. I wonder how many of the critics here have dogs and German Shepherds in particular. I have been around dogs and GS’s in particular my whole life.
Paul Wh, your attitude and reponse it yet another example of this politically correct, OTT, hysterical attitude, people such as yourself have these days.YThe phrase “Empty vessels ….” comes to mind.
Just for information and background. Yoshi was 6 months old when this was taken, we have him since he was 8 weeks old and he is my third GS. German Shepherds are just that….sheep dogs who’s natural instinct is to protect….not to attack unless they are badly treated by their owners…

Mark do you mean , like being placed in cage?.
A dog is an animal. It doesnt have the ability to make correct decions when instinctively reacting to a situation. “That was so out of character for Sparkey” has been heard too many times in the past. Yes not all dogs attack but the person who assumes they can read their animals mind has…… well you know where I am coming from….
Anyway not a conversation for this forum.
From a photography perspective, any photo that invokes emotional responses from the viewer works (in some form, IMO)
MarkKeymasterPaul WhParticipantStill think you were wrong with this image, I’m on my second GSD and to be honest I would not lock my son into a cage with any dog, measure the time it would take to drop your camera, dash to the cage, open the cage in an agitated state and release your child from the grip of a guard dog, sorry if you think I’m OTT but no image was worth this risk, no matter what message you are trying to get across. I have both a young boy and a GSD and I’m stunned by your reaction, the cage is locked, no escape for your son.

Although I don’t have or ever had dogs I would be friendly with a guy who had a number of GS’s & I could
say nothing but good things about them. I found them very trust worthy & gentle.
I think the ‘guard dog’ reputation frightens off a lot of people but if I were to get a dog it would be a GS.
Pay no heed to these people who want to be our Mothers!
Tell them all to get a life!markst33Participantmiki gParticipantPersonally, I hate seeing any animal caged, but I don’t think that the images that were posted were posted to stir up a debate on whether the child or dog should be in this situation. I like the dogs expression which looks as if he is thinking WTF. But other than that, the images don’t really work for me. I would’ve liked to see catchlights in the dogs eyes to bring more life into them. Well done Mark on trying something a bit different & humourous (to some).
Whilst we’re on the subject relating to German shepherd dogs being more dangerous or not than other dogs, I would certainly prefer to be in the cage with a GS rather than a Jack Russell or a Poodle. While it depends on the situation of course, more bites are caused to people by smaller dogs than by big dogs. FACT.
