The Bird Man of Stephens Green

Came across this guy from Germany today in Stephens Green here in Dublin. Nurses injured pigeons back to health and releases them. They recognise him when he goes out and feed from his hand.
He was telling me that he is over here to particpate in medical trials. Apparently he has some rare blood clotting disorder, and also told me that Ireland and Denmark are the only 2 countries on Europe that conduct medical trials. Does anyone know if this is true ?
Anyway he was a gent, learnt his English in the U.S. so I thought he was a yank at first :)
