The birds, the beach and the pier!
-
wirepicParticipant
Was in the UK the other week. Beautiful day and evening so I went to Brighton to take a few photos. Even driving into the town it was beautiful but when I got down to the beach there was a horrible fog. A kind of half-hearted fog. Blocked out a beautiful sunset but still wasn’t thick enough to get some nice atmospheric shots.
So I went to the birds!
Trying to get the birds and waves in motion. And preferred it in colour to b&w. Comments welcome.
Birds, waves, fishing by wirepic, on FlickrDaygloParticipantNow this is really interesting!!!
Well done you- and well captured.
Would love to see the black n white version too!D
markclehaneParticipantI like this a lot! Lovely cool tones and you’ve captured plenty of atmosphere in my opinion. Definitely one to be left in colour alright. It has an almost painterly feel to it.
If I hadto pick on something, possibly the extreme foreground could be cropped a little but that’s just nit-picking. Also, if it was mine I’d be tempted to add a subtle light vignette although that may not be your thing.
Great shot and I think you were lucky to get this rather than another (yawn  ) sunset.
MarkRASMITH32MemberLove this shot!. You have used the rule of thirds well and your shutter speed appears perfect to capture both the birds and waves without blowing out the highlights . Nice one…and kinda different too
wirepicParticipantThanks for all the comments. It’s good to be able to capture something different.
Dayglo, I thought this would look well in b&w also. Especially with some gritty high contrast treatment. So I tried it in b&w and most of the birds in flight get lost against the waves. I didn’t think it had the same impact.
Mark, I think I agree with you about cutting a bit of the foreground off. And like you I like the colours. Another reason I didn’t convert to b&w.
RAS, I got some also with a quicker shutter speed but the impact wasn’t the same.
I spent some time here as the birds just kept taking off and landing. So I got to experiment a bit with different shutter speeds. I would have liked to get a bit closer but that would have meant dodging a lot of bird sh*t and I just didn’t feel very athletic that night!
