The bubble that was….

    Hi,

Those of you that know me will know that I almost never take photographs of people; well to shock you all here is my first attempt using studio lighting. All comments, criticisms and suggestions gratefully accepted.

The lighting just consisted of one soft box to the left.

Happy New Year to you all as well.

    Cheers,

Hi Aedan and happy new year to you too! I like the timing you have clicked just
at the right moment, I think I would have like to see a little more of his face maybe
moved just a tad to the left would have given you more of a profile. But I like the
shot and the lighting against the black background works well.

Hi Aedan. I agree with Jenny about moving slightly to see more of his face. Part of me would prefer the bubble to be still intact because without the blue bubbly blower thingy, I wouldn’t know what was happening & it would add a splash (excuse the pun) of colour to the shot. Another part of me says, the burst bubble is captured very well against the black. Well done

    Hi Jenny and Miki,

Sorry for the delay in replying, I’m away in Cork at the moment and can’t get to the computer as much as normal. I’ll have another go when I get home with a bit more of his face in it. It takes a lot of shots to get the bubble bursting though!

Miki, I have a lot of shots with the bubble intact but in all of them the bubble is blurred even though it is in the zone of focus and other parts of the image are sharp. I think what’s causing it is that the studio strobe has quite a long flash (the spec says as long as 1/300th of a second) and that the bubbles are shimmering around since they have just been created. I tried a few shots with a flash gun to test the theory and they came out sharp all right, so I think I’ll have to figure out how to get the flash gun into the softbox.

Thanks to both of you for your input.

    Aedan
