The Carlow Tree

shutterbugParticipant
Went out for a spin yesterday to visit the Carlow Tree in the hope that the farmer had decided to plant the field with rapeseed this year, alas he hadnt and shock horror  a large part of the field had been excavated for what looks like a house, right bang in front of the tree near to the road, so maybe the famous Carlow Tree shots are numbered, I hope not :( Anyway after driving all the way there I had to get a shot of it and due to the excavations I had to move further up the road, so the lovely curve of the hill isnt as nice as it could have been.
fergieParticipantLovely pic, Jenny. Shame to hear about the possibility of a house ruining the scene.
shutterbugParticipantThanks fergie, yes it would be a terrible shame, it must be the most
photographed tree in Carlow!5faytheParticipantHi Jenny,
There have been some lovely photographs of that tree/field over the years.
I seem to remember one where there were 2 different coloured crops which was quite interesting.
Yours is nice too and nicely composed with a summery feel.
At this size what look like maybe chickens are a little distracting looking as they do like blemishes.
I would guess that at a larger size they might add to the image.Shame about the building.
No consideration for us photographers.Cheers,
John.
shutterbugParticipantHi John, you have been quiet lately, nice to hear from you. I think the “chickens” were two crows
or “black chickens” as I call them (so you weren’t far wrong  ) and you are quite right should
have rubbed them out!I remember that split field photograph also, I was hoping that maybe it would have been like that
this time, but not to be.Thanks for the comments!
AedanCParticipantHi Jenny,
Perhaps some good news for you. One of our local photo club members told me a few weeks ago that he had met the farmer and it’s not a house that’s being built but some land drainage going on. When it’s complete the field should look much the same as it did before. The part of the field that is nearest the road was often very wet and sometimes even flooded.
I really would like him to do a split field again, I got a shot of the last one and it’s one of my favourites. You can see it at http://www.pbase.com/kilkenny_photo_society/image/96138073. I reckon it’s not only the most photographed tree in Carlow but also in Ireland. I passed it one day a few years ago and there were three cars there and about 5 people photographing it.

shutterbugParticipantOh that is good news Aedan! Thanks for that….The Carlow Tree lives to
fight another day :lol:KellydamienParticipantThats a great angle to photograph that tree from Jenny, imagine it surrounded by rape seed or even poppies, very impressive I’d say

shutterbugParticipantMickSParticipantThat’s great news that its not a house thats being built. I stopped at it myself last Thursday, and like you Jenny, I had to move further up the road to get a shot. It’s pretty much from the same place as yours.
That’s a great shot Jenny of my favourite tree.Mick
