    Hi Roberto

I rather liked what you?ve done here in trying to get a fresh angle on a very famous landmark.

Many famous buildings and tourist attractions have almost clich?-like images associated with them. Whether for semi-professional travel photography or just for personal interest, it is good to try to get some fresh angles on these buildings, etc. The first thing I discovered when trying this is that often the clich?d images are shot for a very good reason ? namely, they are the best angle on the buildings, etc. Everything else is going to be a challenge. I like that challenge. And sometimes things like the angle, cropping, lighting, foreground interest, etc, coupled with the freshness of the image, can produce an image that is a welcome alternative to the clich?d ones.

I like this angle on the colosseum, its off-centre framing and the idea behind the foreground boulder. The image is really a good study.

My feeling is that one or two things detract a little from its overall success. The first is the time of day it was shot. The main face of the colosseum which the viewer sees here in this image is largely in shadow. That loses some of the colour and saturation potential of the image and leaves it with a less inspiring effect overall. (The alternative ? strong, flat lighting ? wouldn?t be ideal either, by the way.) I also think that the pile of stones and their shadows don?t help the effect of the image either. A viewpoint with less of them and maybe a depth of field which focuses on the colosseum and blurs the foreground might help. Fundamentally though ? and please don?t think me harsh ? I fear that the pile of stones will always detract. It and the fence will always leave some people thinking ?Colosseum?s back yard?. They really need cropped out.

    Just my ?0.02.

I learnt a lot from this photo. Thanks for posting it.

    Thanks Bertie for the comment.
I am happy that you noticed what I wanted to show with this photo, the other view of Colleseum.
I understand what you are saying about the time, fense and stones. I see this photo as part of series and it would show the other side.
