The elusive second lens

Hello! I’m asking for a few opinions, and i know there’s a few good ones on this board, I’ve decided my favourite lens, and the only one i’ve needed to use so far, my nikon 18-135 is not quite covering all bases for me and i’m on the lookout for a second lens.
I love the 18-135, but the one thing it’s not so good at is low light, the aperature is 3.5 at max, does anyone know of a good wide-angle (anywhere from 10 to 30) with a nicely sized aperature? I’d like to be able to use my camera at night and also, a bit more discreetly, something the 18-135 isn’t so good at!
I have a d40x btw, any thoughts are appreciated!

You might want to check out the Sigma 30mm f1.4 – Nikon is a little light on the ground in terms of wider, lowlight primes – especially ones that will autofocus on your D40X.
There is a 50mm f1.4 AFS on the way, but this is not out yet and probably not as wide as you like.
Overall, the Sigma’s not cheap, and it might even be cheaper trading up to a body that will autofocus with regular non-AFS lenses. In this case, you’re probably looking at a D50/ D80/ D90 body,

Thanks Damien, that’s actually alot of help, i had noticed the autofocus might be a problem. I’ve heard good things about Nikon’s 20mm f2.8, maybe not as big an aperture as i would have liked but it’s certainly better than my own lens and it’s got the wide angle that i love. It’s also tiny and would transform my camera and how i could use it.
Only thing is i would have to get used to manual focus, not entirely impossible, i’m sure…

The 20 is a great little lens alright, I’ve always found it a cracker – tiny & sharp as a tack.. even outshone my 12-24!
Think autofocus will be ok on this one for you, the depth of field is pretty large so the lens doesn’t punish you too much. I’d say beware manually focusing with the longer focal lengths though, if you go down that route, as autofocus lenses don’t give you much to play with in terms of focus travel, making precise focusing more challenging,
