Just caught the last ten minutes of this week’s episode.
Saturdays – BBC2 – 7PM
Documentary series exploring the history of photography.
plainoldmeMemberI saw it as well John, thought it was quite interesting!
There were also two chappies on the late late show this week talking about what makes a good photograph. Didn’t catch their names!
Interesting to hear the point of views on that one :)
Mick451ParticipantAlan RossiterParticipantMarkKeymasterWatched the first episode last week and was very good. Forgot about it tonight.
Thanks for the link Mick !thedarkroomParticipantYeh, saw it mentioned in the paper but can’t get it here. Don’t have satellite and we get our BBC on the aerial as BBC Wales. The re-broadcast is on BBC Northern Ireland for this run. If anyone has managed to record it to DVD I’d really love to get my hands on it. Anyone out there got it, I’m sure we could manage some sort of trade?

I saw that and I’m going to follow it up when there’s less competition with my teenage sons for the broadband connection the house. I think though that uTube will be a poor quality substitute for watching it on the bigger screen but I will watch it there anyway.
Hopefully someone will turn up with a DVD or BBC will either show it on BBC Wales or make the DVD commercially available. I would certainly be happy to purchase it if it was available,David
DeeboParticipantcathaldParticipantAye I started watching it last night and it looked interesting but I had a few pints down watching the football and fell asleep after about 10 mins but I will catch up via Micks link

Wild Trials on RTE was a good series but other than that there’s nothing on, Pity.
You do get the odd photography related film turn up now and again. I think my favourite is One Hour Photo, powerful and spookey. Salvador is another excellent one or Blow Up, if you want to go back a few years (1966) to something dealing with drug-fuelled paranoia and obsession. Any others out there?nfl-fanParticipantAnyone watch this last Saturday?
T’was very good… I was totally engaged… even herself sat down and watched. Some fantastic photos. Very impressed with some of Mr. Smith’s Pittsburgh project.
Never was much of a historian… and I’ll shamefully admit that I was none the wiser as to who Robert Capa and Eugene Smith were. I’ve since ordered a book about Mr. Capa… and if it’s any good, which I think it will be, then I’ll get some more.

Alan RossiterParticipantIt was a good night but one element showed the silliness of photography as well as the genius. The guy who was exploding about HCB’s image of the guy jumping over the water (below) and how he was drooling at the symbolism in it and comparing him to Nostradamus.
(Linked through FLickr and Imageshack…not my image)The documentaries on BBC4 were quite good too and I thought the images of James Ravilious were something else. Imagine getting a Leica and covering it and the lens in black insulating tape just to get the best form an image.
Alan.
