Last night I was out at the Sugarloaf car park with a group of namateur astronomers. I took some fixed tripod images of the night sky and I believe this is the best of the bunch, an image of Canis Major, the Great Dog, a little bit of Orion can be seen to the upper right.
This was a 30 second exposure at f/4 and ISO 1600, a 17-85mm Canon lens wide open. I cropped a little of the bottom and removed some horrible telegraph poles in Photoshop.
C&Cs welcome and thanks for looking.
The bright star in the image is Sirius, also called the Dog Star, and it is the brightest star in the night sky.
