The long walk to work?
-
davenewtParticipant
Given this was taken a few seconds before/after Lorraine’s shot (linky!) and the chap in my pic is walking the other way, maybe he’s off to work.
Except I doubt it.
Still, comments if you please…
Tried to keep a moody feel to this one. Took all the blue out of the conversion for a start, which kept the sky nice and dark. Does it “work”?
Take it easy,
D.jb7ParticipantHello Dave,
nice to meet you the other night,
so that’s what the tripod was for-This one seems well converted,
nice range of tones,
though overall, on the screen,
maybe it seems just a tiny bit flat-
though maybe not- its more a taste issue than anything else-I’m not so sure about including the bollard either,
perhaps the pattern in the cobbles and the puddles might have been enough on their own?Though many will disagree-
j
davenewtParticipantYou too JB… yep… the tripod comes in handy for the odd photo when it’s not over my shoulder knocking into people in crowded galleries :-)
I’d agree with your assessment of flatness… I did try to make it a little more dynamic, maybe I’ll have another go sometime.
Wanted to include the line of cobbles running into the shot, so cropping out the bollard wasn’t really an option… unless I went halfway… which would look odd.
A re-shoot may be in order :-)
D.ExpresbroParticipantI like the Bollard myself ( You’re right Joseph… some would disagree..). I think it is nicely positioned and leads the eye into the shot. But I do agree with JB that that it looks a little flat…but I do personally like quite contrasty shots with lots of black. Otherwise is a perfect compliment to Lorraine’s shot. We’ll just pretend he’s going to work…makes for perfect symetry
davenewtParticipantThanks. Now, talking of going to work… there was something I was supposed to do this morning… what was it…? ;-)
davenewtParticipantPS Looking at this again now, I quite like how the light in the scene is isolated in the background there… hmm… I’m growing to like this one…
LoGillParticipantSo thats what it looks like :)
A squidge more contrast – even just around the buildings and foreground would improve the shot … Might even enhance the glow of light in the centre of the shot.
Good Stuff :D
L
terryMemberStill like this shot like I said to Lorraine it brings back many memories for me. Love the feel of the shot.

davenewtParticipantDavePParticipantI like the light and tones in this one. I think they add to the atmosphere. As for the bollard, I think that if you cropped this out you would ruin the image altogether and remove all of the perspective.
jb7ParticipantI may have drawn a lot of unnecessary attention to your bollard,
however I wasn’t suggesting that you crop it,
more that if you had taken an alternate shot from a few feet forward,
then the cobbled foreground may have been enough-As it is , it may just be a red herring disguised as a black bollard-
:D
joseph
davenewtParticipantI realise that… no undue attention drawn. I will be re-shooting at some stage, soon enough, and will try a few different options!
