Just a casual shot from the very first wedding I ever shot, for a friend (more as a favour that anything else). Always regret not having a better camera at the time as I’d love this shot to have been higher res. However, I did like the mood…! I was using a Fuji FinePix S9500 which had a flip down screen at the rear which meant I could take shots and not be intrusive. It also meant I could take shots from levels and angles which would be more difficult if I’d been using standard equipment.
This is one of the flower girls who, at only two and a half years of age, was a proverbial whirlwind…. almost impossible to shoot. Fortunately the nature of the camera allowed this shot, as I wasn’t even looking towards her, so she seemed more interested in the camera than in what I was doing.
The hallway was quite dark, with black marbled tiles etc and she just seemed to radiate light in the dark surroundings. Originally shot in colour and simply converted to mono in photoshop. One of my favourites from the day.
Some people have asked me ‘wouldn’t it have been better without the soother?’… I think not myself, as I just think it adds so much more character to the shot and it’s a true reflection of the child…. coz she wasn’t going anywhere without it…!! :-)
