The ‘perfect’ Gig lighting etc.?

    Hey everyone.
I was wonding how to get the ‘perfect’ gig lighting.
Because when I do gig shoots (bar in mind I do them at small bars) But I can never get the background lights to fully come through, and when I don’t use my flash, I can’t get anything right!
What are the best settings to use without the photos looking too grainy?
Also what apeture & lenses are best to work with?

Here is an example of some of my work.

    Feed back is welcome =]
    Thanks for reading

Sorry for the delay getting back yo you, I found the following link that might answer some of your questions, I had a quick read through it and fast lens and minimum use of flash seems to be the order of the dayhttp://photo.net/learn/concerts/mirarchi/concer_2.htm
I hope it is of some help to you.

    Hi Elizabeth,

Generally to capture the lighting you need to be shooting in manual mode, all other modes are no good for gig photography. A rule of thumb in small venues is 1600-3200 Iso, Shutter Speed 1/60-1/100, max aperture of 2.8. and Spot meter. Also flash is generally not allowed at larger gigs so you should try not to use it as you won’t get what your looking for.

    Hope this helps.

    Paul
