I dont see much to like or dislike about the first one Steve, overall I think it lacks something of central interest.
Number two is the clear winner of the 2 images in my view – good composition, good foreground interest and detail and strong colours.
I find that the most difficult shots are when there is a lot of water in the foreground. It’s difficult to get a pleasant composition. You have succeed very well, I feel, on the first picture. To me there is a focal point and a curiosity. I woild love to sail up to the gap and see what lies ahead. I like the etherial look. It is not too overdone and works well with the conversion.
The second shot has an autumnal, warm feeling. It would look well hanging on a wall with the flicker of the turf fire reflecting on it. I would like to see a bigger version though.
Steve, I like the second shot of the Silent Valley a lot. Lovely lines where the mountains meet sky and lake. Almost a scene I’d expect to see in the Scottish highlands rather than NI! My only minor nit-pick is that maybe the heather in the foreground looks a tad too warm for the type of weather conditions the sky suggests.
Both of them are excellent, Steve, really like them.
First one has a terrific palette of muted colours and an elegant balance to it, very serene.
Second one has brilliant composition and colour, my only minor (really teeny tiny) criticism would be the small blow out in the clouds.
