The sugar loaf at night

Something i’ve been meaning to try for ages. Was the first mostly clear sky in a long time so out to Wicklow to find somewhere dark away from streetlights. This is 20 mins worth of 30second exposures stacked. Would have liking to stay longer but it was too cold. Next time need to stay away from flightpaths and find somewhere even darker.

Hi Jason, it is a great first attempt! The Sugarloaf is probably a bit too brightly lit with
Bray and Kilmac just behind it, and yes the planes go along the East coast, a better spot
Is the far side of Roundwood but hard to find a good vista, Glendalough or the mountains
would be good too. If you can manage to set the camera up beside the car and have your
remote release, then you can stay tucked up in the car! :D

Great 1st attempt Jason. Very hard to find anywhere without light polution & away from flight paths. I like the lights from the plane turning on the right hand side, Has me thinking of shooting jet trails instead of stars now.

    thanks guys,

yes you really need a good clear night the passing clouds did affect this image at the pole star and left particularly, the orange glow from wicklow or bray i dont mind as without it the mountain might fade into darkness. The planes yeah its amazing how many pass there in space of 20mins, i dont even remember seeing the plane that made the curving flightpath but it is an interesting one for sure

can’t wait for the next clear night with no moon
