Alex sunsets are usually associated with lots of bright strong colours. While you have captured some colour, your the picture is dominated by large areas of darkness which takes from the impact of the colour. It was obvious not a great sunset but I’m sure there will be better ones to take during the remainder of the year. You just have to be out there when they occur. Good luck with your shooting.

i agree with tex, there are too many dark clouds which overall lead to a very dark scene.

i see why you wanted to capture this, the rays seeping out below that lower cloud look really nice.

did you get any images from a later time, like when the sun went below that lower cloud?
there should have been really nice colours then?

i have to say i like the black. all depends on what you want from the image. just because the ‘ideal’ or ‘typical’ sunset is one way doesn’t mean it always has to be, especially if you’re trying to say something different.

    the intent is the key….

Hi apologies for the delay. i agree with both ideas for answers i do quite like the image but also would prefer to see more vibrant colors
no I was unable to get any from later on as very heavy dark clouds formed in about 5 minutes so it just blocked out all the light.

    Regards
