The Usual Suspects…
-
nfl-fanParticipant
Just a selection from a 2 hour sit in the glorious October sunshine yesterday morning.
For the most part it was all the usual suspects (Coal Tits, Blue Tits, House Sparrows, Robins, Dunnocks, Greenfinch and Goldfinch) but I did have a pair of Wren’s make a quick stop and a rather odd little Goldfinch, which I think is a Juvenile?

miki gParticipantSeaviewParticipantnfl-fanParticipantThanks Miki n’ Dave.
Any thoughts on #1? I thought it was a bit late in the year for a Juvenile… but that’s just a guess.
Cheers
Jmiki gParticipantIt certainly looks like a juvenile. I thought the starlings were finished having young a good while back, but there’s a new batch in the neighbours roof over the past few weeks. #1 looks nice sharp and uncluttered as only one branch in it and the background is nicely out of focus. Yep, it looks good.
nfl-fanParticipantThanks Miki… I didn’t think that your typical garden bird hatched this time of year… must check me books again.
miki gParticipantYeah I agree, it’s strange for them to have had young so late. I was going to try to photograph them, but was afraid of falling off the roof. It must be nice and warm inside the roof cavity or something.
GoosebankerParticipantThese are all lovely, sharp well composed images, nice DOF too. Well done, great set.
PixelleMemberHave you been feeding them yet or maybe you tamed them all?
I was going to wait for a change in the weather before filling the feeders. :)Oh, beautiful shots.
nfl-fanParticipantCheers folks.
I feed them all year round… the summer months were quiet… but it’s getting real busy up there over the last 6-7 weeks.
Black Sunflower Seeds is the new favourite… they go absolutely mental for them… they’ll go through a 4 port feeder of these seeds in about 4-5 hours. Nyger seeds for the Goldfinches.
That being said… I think that if you sit there reasonably still for long enough they get used to you.

PixelleMemberstdanevMemberVery good selection John.
I am still waiting for goldfinches and chaffinches to come to our garden.
One bullfinch was last saturday.:) Stoycho
PhotoSligoMemberthedarkroomParticipantA nice set of photos John.
No 1 certainly looks like a juvenile and it’s quite possible this year as I have seen several birds producing second broods quite late. We’ve had swallow and sparrow juveniles up to recently and only two or three weeks ago I saw swallows back and forth to a nest near me so anything is possible. While the sun hasn’t been great this summer, the weather has been mild for an extended period apart from one cold snap a fortnight ago.David
DeeboParticipantLovely set John, some superb images and all pin sharp and clutter free backgrounds.
Great results
