    Thanks everyone.

Stoycho – Bullfinch grr.. it’s the one bird I can’t seem to get. There’s a few around but they’ve only ever stopped by on a couple of occassions for a couple of seconds. Try some Nyger Seed to attract the Goldfinches.

Thanks to the lads for the info on the Juveniles too.

All photos taken with a Canon 100-400 on a 400D.

    Cheers!!!

Great set there John. I am sure any editor of books on birds would be only too happy to include some of these when going to print……..Mikka

    The birdman is back…

I envy you the selection of visitors you have. The best I’ve had this year
is a couple of sparrows and a great pair of tits. Or was that a pair of great tits?
    I can never be certain…

I envy you the selection of visitors you have.

Went up in gale force winds and torrential rainfall yesterday to ensure that there was plentiful supplies in the feeders so that nobody would go hungry. I wouldn’t like to be out looking for a worm in that weather yesterday.

It’s the love & care within me… it all goes to the birds :(

    Cheers

Your usual standard of great picture John. Good stuff.

Like the Dunnock in the bunch above.

In relation to your comments about the bullfinch – it’s my understanding that bullfinches feed on the ground so you feeders may not attract them. I’m open to correction on that, of course, but it could be something worth looking in to.

    Thanks Triple B.

There are Bullfinches in the area, I’ve seen some about 1/4km up the road. They do stop over in the garden the odd time… but never to feed.

I put some stuff on the ground the odd time when I know the pheasants are about… but it can attract rats which is obviously undesirable especially since one ate through the fuel line on herself’s car.

Anyone else have regular Bullfinch visitors in their garden?

    Hi John

In our garden bullfinches usual are on top of the trees, difficult to take good shot.
They never going to the feeders. Two weeks ago I bought forest bird food from LIDL to atract bullfinches ,yellowhammers and other birds, so I hope they will come close to the camera.

    Cheers Stoycho.

I bought some stuff in Lidl myself last week but didn’t notice the forest bird stuff you mentioned.

Try corn on the ground for the Yellowhammers… once you get their attention with something they like it definitely works.

Great set(s) of shots John, when are you going to start those urban bird photography workshops to pass on your knowledge to the rest of us?? Free to all PI members i presume ??? We bought fifty euro worth of bird feed in lidil last week for the new ( soon to be completed ) hide being built in UL… Well be happy if we can get half of what you get at the ranch.
