The wonder of light

Two shots in one night and without me having posted a critique in AGES. Hopefully I’ll redress that balance pretty soon. Anyway, a second shot.

I’m not the most creative photographer in the world and usually just capture what I see, more so than create something. But this is a shot from a recent model shoot, where I envisaged an image and worked towards it. Commetns welcome.

I like the idea; natural light, location, movement…

On the positive side, nicely composed, true verticals, and the model’s
position is perfect in the frame.

Minor niggles. The natural light is fantastic, but more might have been
made of it with a reflector, or even just a white cloth on the wall, out of frame to
the model’s right. I feel it needs just a smidgen more to lift the shadows.
It looks as though you were trying to capture movement, but the timing might
be slightly off; your model looks to be at that point of a stride when the swing
of the arms is passing the body, so it ends up being a little static.
    Just my humble opinion…

Super, super shot… love the light from the windows hitting the floor… can’t put my finger on what this scene represents but I really think it is excellent. It’s the pics that having me asking questions that often intrigue me the most. Is the model supposed to be walking or posing? Seems like more of a pose than a natural walk?

PS. LMAO ‘diddies’… haven’t heard that word in years!!

Excellent use of light, beautiful shot overall, I just wounder if the model was one step closer the camera, would there be more light fallling on her.

Love the lighting and composition, but the model looks tense and in an unnatural walk to me.

What this shot spells out to me is excellence in technique more than anything else. If the content/appeal of the picture was stronger then the technical aspect would hopefully fade into the background. Hope you get my drift? Could possibly be improved by allowing more light on the subject, maybe half a step closer to the camera would allow more light to hit her; as others said, the walking pose/stance does look a bit awkward. I would regard it as ‘close, but not quite…..’ if you know what I mean.

Lot of fair points on her pose, am also guessing she was walking, but her arms are in mid swing.

The bit that gets me more is the window, If the shot was taken from a little more camera right, and eliminateds the glass in the window, I think the shot would be more balanced. My eye is drawn to the window as it’s the brightest part of the shot.

    Nice shot though! :-)

Superb Shot Ciaran. You have a good eye for taking pictures, well done.

Noticed there is a black spot on the wall to the right of the shot half way down or is that dirt from the lens.

    Hi Ciaran,

I like the general composition and flow of the picture… but… It just looks a bit awkward/incongruent somehow. The model with a twist in her body, looking over shoulder or out of window maybe, do you have other shots? I wonder what it would have looked like shot from a slightly lower position, to give more drama to the windows and perhaps a shorter lens (if the location allowed).

    All best Happy Crimble.

I echo all above re awkward pose/walk.
I like the tilt of her head, and her expression.

One thing that csught my attention was her skirt, it’s a little creased.

I really like this shot..the only thing i would of done was add some hazy light rays coming through the window and healed out her niplets, they are a bit distracting lol.
But you got people talking…great post :)
