guthrijParticipantNow I know where to get a new Norwegian Blue. My current one. ‘e is pinin’ for the fjiords.
Think I will give New Ross a miss this year.
Cheers, John
RobMemberPhew, that’s a lot images there John, and not a great advertisement for New Ross…
Obviously you’re not counting on getting critique on every image, but they do work well
as a set. The conversions are probably a little ‘hot’ for my personal taste, and there might
be a few from the set that are a little weak and don’t add a lot…There is one standout image here, or at least I think so…
This one…
Like this one a lot. Not a lot not to like about it…
Rob.
jb7ParticipantThat’s a top destination, I’m definitely going there-
Good set alright-
I think the only thing I’d have any issue with is the distortion,
though maybe after that’s sorted, I might have another look at the framing in some…I might leave some out altogether too-
maybe there are too many, and the weaker ones end up diluting the better ones-
for example, the ‘no parking one doesn’t seem to sit too well with the majority,
similarly the boys on the steps-imo, of course-
j
jqmx0ParticipantI really like this set of shots :) my favourite is this one:
Can I ask how you did your post processing, I really like the mono treatment you’ve given these images.
Thanks,
J.
rc53MemberImpressive set from a not-impressive place; I don’t think I would want to spend a wet weekend there.
As above, there is some distortion apparent; deliberate?
If not, try PTLens plug-in – it’s not dear, and works well for this sort of thing.
DeeboParticipantVery good series NFL.
A great project and quite a bit of time to get this all togehter and process.
I would maybe consider condensing into the best 7-8 or so
I like this one the best:

nfl-fanParticipantCheers everyone.
John: I take it that a Norwegian Blue is a Parrot? Looks like hard times for exotic birds in New Ross.
Rob: Yes, a few too many… 21 in total… yikes. Maybe half this would be more appropriate. Not sure what you mean by “hot” but yes I agree that the processing is a little bit risky for B+W and not everyone would take to it.
jb7 and rc: I was aware of the distortion plus there are some that are crooked. I consciously decided to not fix them as I thought that perhaps the flaws might just add to the character? Yes? No?
jqmx0: The conversion was done in Lightroom. If you have Lightroom let me know and I can supply a preset.
Deebo: Agreed, too many.
Thanks again.

They do seem appropriate.
steelydanParticipantNice series John, it would make a nice poster someday to remind the New Ross people of what old buildings that existed.
mgstParticipantMartinOCParticipantVery nice set, numbering might help… I particularly like 5, 6, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 19. I guess they make more of a cohesive set and perhaps 19 is my top pick but Rob’s fav is also in the running with me.
You have created a strong atmosphere in the photos which I hope is not real, not so cheery place.
Martin
[edit] I think the distortion adds a bit of character
nfl-fanParticipantNumbered now, thanks Martin.
One of the reasons why I posted so many shots was that it tends to tell the truth about a place the more and more you see of it. It’s easy to go to any town and find 10 subjects to make it look like it’s run down, but the fact of the matter here is… New Ross is a hell hole, in my opinion of course.
My father told me a few days back that when the Town Development Grants were being awarded only so many towns could receive money and New Ross was totally looked over and didn’t receive a penny.
I don’t think there’s anything in the town… no swimming pool, no cinema, not sure if there’s even a nightclub anymore… I could be wrong. Tesco have a large store on the outskirts of the town which open a few years ago so it really seems the town centre is on the decline. Being honest, I’m sure I noticed more Polish people in the town centre than Irish… not sure what that says about the place other than there wasn’t many Irish people around.
I pass through every week when heading to Waterford to get messed up arm seen to and kept telling myself I must come back and take some photos.
Thanks again everyone.
CooksterParticipantHey there,
I grew up in New Ross and it is definitely a dirty old town! I left when I was 20 and only go back once or twice a year. I love the character in all these shots they bring back a lot of memories. New Ross was never a holiday destination and these shots which I can’t imagine are more than a year old show how the Celtic Tiger didn’t seem to do much for a town that had a lot of potential.
I would love to see a documentary set by the NFL showing New Ross in a posetive light, possibly a harder thing to do?? Check out the Dunbroady Famine ship, the Ros Tapestry and I’m sure a bright sunny day would dig up a wealth of posetives.
Although, you still might not want to go there on holidays, maybe just a day trip!!!I like the shots of the Church too, were they done on the same day? We didn’t have telly in church in my day!
