Thinking of putting in a panel for next LIPF – your thoughts

one of the guys in our camera club just got his A panel, they were very heavily processed and textured, all be it portrait type thiings, they were old carnival type remakes,
steelydanParticipantI believe I saw that one Steve, very inventive panel though. He took a theme of old carnival cards that they used to hand out way back when, with all the characters in the carnival like the bearded lady,Siamese twins etc and he replicated the cards with his own models..
Very good panel and probably the best A Panel on the day. There was one panel that was mounted terrible and it achieved the A and even the judges commented on the appalling mounting, but still got it? Beats me, when they stated at the beginning that the A panels would be scrutinized to the highest degree.

My response to that is “Stride on!” I’ve said in other groups that when I look at a photograph, I see a beginning. I heard it said recently in my Creative Imaging course that a photographer looks at a photo and sees a finished item, whereas a designer looks at a photo and sees a beginning. Well where did I hear that before! LOL. I must be a designer! I’ve seen achtungbarry’s work elsewhere and indeed I’ve commented on it before. Some of it, I think is great and some of it I think is not so great, but I see plenty of experimentation and that, I think is to be applauded. I can’t comment on suitability for LIPF (hope I got that right!) but keep on going Achtungbarry!
climberhuntParticipantI think the images themselves would easily pass the LIPF. Just ensure the printing is done very well, as I’ve seen many panels fail over bad printing.
I dont have an LIPF myself, havent got round to it, but I’ve attended a couple of sittings, and your panel certainly has the wow factor that you get when you just KNOW a panel is going to pass. The only surprises of those that dont pass would generally be down to poor printing, or some other technical fault.
Rgds,
Dave.WillemMemberEddieParticipantThey will walk it, the images are good quality and will stand up even without HDR, the processing is first class, I am not a fan of HDR but it’s in fashion at the moment so will do you no harm. Print and mount them well, maybe double mounts for impact and the “wow” factor.
