To sky or not to sky?

I took this early morning image of Atlanta years ago but did not like the sky. This was back to when I was just learning Photoshop. So, as a learning tool, I took the Atlanta photo, got rid of the sky and played around with adding a new sky I did like. I wish I’d kept the original as there was a dramatic difference.
So these are both shots with different skies added in? I quite like the first one. Not so hot on the second one, really, it looks a bit *too* manipulated to my untrained eye.
