I did what you said and tried to get the subject to fill the frame but I couldn’t get close enough to do this. I am using a 75-300mm lense. Am I doing something wrong? A bit disappointed with these. C&C welcome as always.

These are definately better. Maybe you have reached the closest focusing distance of the lense. Its quite normal to use that as a feature of your images. Taking in the flowers and maybe the insect too. If you want get in closer, you could invest in some extension tubes or a dipoter.
First one is spot on focus wise just needs a bit of brightening up IMO. Second would have been great if the bee had been in focus, keep on trying……Mikka
These are so much better.
#1 has the bee as the subject, evidenced by its sharpness.
In #2 the flower is in focus with the bee as a minor detail in the background; also a perfectly valid image, IMHO as always.
