I finally bought this lens this week (new) from Camera Exchange for €475.00. Conns Camera’s are looking for €599.99 for the same lens!! I can’t believe the disparity in the prices.

Did u say anything to them in Conns ? You should. I love to hear the BS these people come up with to justify their position.

They told me that all photographic prices are going up. Reason he gave was the Asian money market. He said the lens must be old stock they were selling. Actually they had to order it in for me. So that argument did not hold up. He also said if I could get the lens for that price to grab it. So I did :-)

It must have been an old stock. They were selling this lens for 500 couple month ago (in November). This lens is not very popular since 11-16/2.8 has appeared.
You could try to find it on ebay or to buy sigma 10-20. Also very nice lens. Another thing is, that Ireland is probably the worst country on the Earth for buying photo gear. Some equipment is 1.5x more expensive than in UK/NI. E.g. Berminghams. They are often selling used gear in the price of new one in UK (see the price of nikon d300 – 1099 for used and 1575 for new).
It is a pity because I preffer to spend my money in Eire, but on the other hand nobody gives me this money for free.
It looks like some people didn’t noticed that sterling/euro exchange ratio is not 1.5 anymore, but in many stores we have to pay more than Britons do.

From what I understand, the likes of Nikon and Canon (canon certainly) sell their gear to their Irish
distributors at a higher price that they do in say the UK/USA. This of course will impact what they’re
    selling for.

At the same time, when I’ve had to go back to an Irish store here in Cork with a problem, I got great
service at the time, with the camera repaired free and back to me in less than 2 weeks. They didn’t
have to do this as the problem was totally caused by me and not a defective camera.

Tokina has had a huge price increase this year. We will have them at Photofest and we hope to still have the old prices on some items. We currently have a mint second hand 12-24 Canon fit for €390 if anyone else needs one.

    Mark,
I know what means a good service in my home town.
In UK and US prices are probably the lowest in the world, but the difference is simply too big. Moreover, it is simply difficult to understand, why in Ireland prices has to be higher than almost everywhere in Europe.
Belive me, I would gladly spend my money in the country where I live instead of buying equipment in UK or in Belgium.
