FrankCParticipant
Also, if you want to buy from a shop (in Dublin), the Gallery of Photography has one of the biggest collections of photo books I’ve seen locally.
Saves waiting for the postman – but full price, of course.markcapilitanParticipant1.Light on the Earth – Best of Wildlife Photographer of the Year

4.Worlds Top Photographers Portraits
5.Herb Ritts – Exhibition book6.Grand Prix Themes 2006 – Mark Capilitan (had to include this as it’s my own ‘one off’ book of my images from the 2006 F1 season!!)
AllinthemindParticipantThe Martin Evening Books on Photoshop (by a photographer for photographers) are great. (developing your picture and preparing for print)
The Digital Printing Handbook – Tim Daly (goes a little further on printing digital photos)
The Photographer and the Law – Don Cassell (easy to read book explaining rights and wrongs)
The best of Helmut Newton (for inspiration)
The Magic of rapport – Jerry Richardson (for anyone photographing people)

I’m always popping into charity shops looking for old books on photography….
The early books on 35mm SLR photography are great for the basics of Lenses and the mechanics of the camera. Many new photographers have never seen inside a camera and alwhough basic are a fine read. :)

earthairfireParticipantFor me (in no order):
Migrations: Humanity in Transition – Sebastaio Salgado – Simply one of the greatest photographers to ever walk this earth.
Photoshop for photographers – Martin Evening – Everyone who uses photoshop should own this bok
ephotozine guide to great photography – Peter Bargh – Outstanding pictures and techniques written by enthusiasts for enthusiasts
Banksy – Banksy (not strictly a photography book, but had to mention it!) – you have to see this book to understand it
Digital photographer’s handbook – Tom Ang – Great book for beginners starting out – Was so useful for me when I took the plunge…MarkKeymastercarpedeumParticipantJust to change tack slightly, these are my favourites….
Unreasonable Behaviour by Don McCullin (Autobiography)
Sleeping With Ghosts: A Life’s Work In Photography by Don McCullin (Photographs)
Gellhorn – A Twentieth Century Life by Caroline Moorhead.
Lee Miller: A Life by Caroline BurkeIf you really want to get into the psyche of a war photographer and the post thraumatic stress of doing the job as well as understanding the futility of war and the victimisation of innocent civilians, read the McCullin biography. I got both books as Christmas presents some years ago. They are never lent out! I got the Gellhorn and Miller books secondhand last year in The Strand Bookshop in NYC and both were great reads during the winter evenings.
