I plan on visiting Ireland/UK in 2011. By what I have read about Gret Britain…including in British Publications, I am confused about Photographic restrictions. How much are the restrictions in GB overblown or understated?
My reference is to prohibition of photographing military, police personel, certain public buildings, and children. Granted walking up to a defense installation with a camera is usually not a bright idea and improper photos of children will quite rightfully get you a room with a large roomate for a few years. But what exactly are the limitations?
I have been told Ireland, Scotland and Wales is much more laid backwith a more photo-friendly population. What is the reality of these claims? Is the harrassment/distrust of photographers a common occurence or overblown publicity to a few isolated inncidents?
Also when is the best season to visit Ireland? I am very interested in photographing ruins and ancient buildings.
Im not sure on the restrictions in the UK however in Ireland its pretty much relaxed once there isnt anything sensitive going on, and your on public property. For the UK the following link might be helpful: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photography_and_the_law” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;
With regards photography and the best season, generally the beginning of Autumn has good weather and is a good time, then or spring, the month of May is another time when there is generally favourable weather, however there is a saying in Ireland that you can see all 4 seasons in one day so its always a possibility that no-matter when you visit is going to be lashing and dull for your whole visit.
