Thanks Brendan. The horizon is quite central but the tree is growing in the
water and I wanted as much of the reflection as possible in frame.
If I framed for the horizon on a third the tree was imo too small.Thought so.
BTW, I see your avatar is a strat. I have a long term loan of my father’s at the moment. Lovely guitar to settle into the corner of a sofa and have a mess on. Beautiful guitar to play.

I selectively used levels in PS Elements 4 to balance out the exposures.
So is this a combination of exposures blended together??
I really need to learn how to do this. I’d prefer to use filters to get this right but those cokins are such crap and I can’t afford to fork out for Lee’s at the minute that i’ll have to learn.
Any link to tutorials on exposure blending? I have CS3 but can’t make head nor tail of it and have no interest really in learning the ins and outs of it but I’d like to be able to blend exposures when it is needed!!

pleasure.Like all guitar brands some Strats can be “difficult” but mine, thankfully, is a gem.
Bit off topic I know.
But Guitars and photography. :D :D :D :D :D :D :DCheers Brendan.

5faytheParticipantHi Ballyman,
With this one I was lucky and the Jpeg was nearly as you see it above.
I shoot a RAW and a Jpeg for every image but didn’t need the RAW either. (IMO of course)
I didn’t have to combine 2 images.
I just selected the sky using the selection tool and darkened a fraction with levels.
Then selected the foreground and lightened a little.
I used a feather of 100 pixels.
If you press ALT while using the Levels slider you can eye in case you over or under
expose parts of your image.I then did a little sharpen and thats it.
Cheers,
John.
hotjohn01ParticipantI cant decide between the two, i think the first one has a warmer feel to it due to the vivid orangy reds however the calmer, pastel shades of purples and pinks are really nice in no2 also :D
5faytheParticipantThanks John for taking the time to comment.
The same subject with 10 minutes difference.
Cheers,
John.
ShleedMemberI wouldn’t worry about the horizon being central, sometimes bending the composition rules works.
I like the 2nd picture, has a nice abstract feel to it.
