Trim Castle at Dusk

I haven’t been posting much lately as I’ve had weddings to attend and the usual summer distractions. I’ve also recently upgraded to a 5Dmk2 and this is the first image I’ve been happy enough with to post. I was hoping for a nice sunset, but I got this nice midnight-blue instead. I can’t complain, it was a beautiful evening.

    Aperture: f/10
    Focal Length: 24mm

Camera: Canon EOS 5D Mark II

Lovely tones in this but I’d be tempted to crop some of the darker area on the far right.

Thanks for the comments Mark! I think you might have a point there. I really liked the reeds as a balancing element, but I think I could have gotten away with cropping out the first clump just to make it a bit tighter. Also, lately I seem wedded to standard crop ratios. I’m not sure why.

    Lovely shot of the castle.

I also like the reeds on the RHS – if they weren’t there, then a bit of cropping might be in order.
Also – I think it’s an optical illusion, but the keep part of the castle seems to be leaning a bit to the right.

Nope, it’s no illusion. The walls of the keep are just not straight. I tried correcting it, but if I straighten for the right-hand wall, the left-hand wall leans to the left. In the end, I chose to let the right-hand wall lean because then the outer walls of the castle are straight then as well. I’ve considered using one of those transform thingys in PS to straighten it, but somehow that feels wrong. It’s over a thousand years old, so I guess we shouldn’t expect it to be perfectly straight!

    Thanks for the comments!
