Trying to upload pictures for the first time

I’m trying to upload pictures for the first time. I have photoshop elements 7. I believe you have to use a public domain “thing” like flicker. Photoshop has a service called showcase. Is that useable and where do I go from there?

Hi James,

I know when I started posting here it was hard to understand the directions (my problem of course).

Here is what I do.

1] Resize image to 800 pixels on the long side

2] Upload to Flickr

3] Choose the lagre size in flickr and right click on the image

4] choose “Properties”

5] copy the link like this . . . http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3406/3178616957_c640d6b440_o.jpg

6] go to your post in PI click the “img” button

7] paste your copied link

8] press the “img” button again.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for your directions. They seem easier than siggestions I’ve seen on other threads.
I’ll try to get around to it in the next fwe days.

James; here you need to remove both

[im

that you have before http and

?v=0g

part of the url first.

[ihttp://farm4.static.flickr.com/3507/3251467924_459230ed4d_b.jpgmg][/img]

In this one you have an extra

i

before http and

mg

after .jpg

I have followed the directions in the previous posts as you can see from the edits, but it still didn’t work?? :(
I think the problem is that I didn’t resize the photos first by 800 0n the long side. What exactly does that mean and why should you have to do it? Can P.I. only handel files of a certain size?
I am new to flickr to and not finding it easy to pick the photos I want. It all comes up as files and then not only about half of the photos or less are there.
Is it possible to upload the photos directly from my Photoshop Elements 7 organiser straight onto into flickr.
Is anyone aware of photoshops online photo sharing package, “Showcase”. It is much easyer to use from PSE 7 than flickr. All you need is for it to have a URL for it to be posted here, correct??????

Sorry to be such an ignoramus.

James if you leave out the brackets [ ] around the url – and at front of your url http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3507/3251467924_459230ed4d_b.jpg put in then it should work for you you shouldnt have to resize if coming from flickr URL

give it another go – once you get it once its great as its better for viewing the posts and leaving replies

Ok what’s going on here.

Just as I finnished the last text I saw the, “Add image to post”, at the bottom of the text box. This seemed to give me a selection when I clicked on the, “browse”, link. Is that the right way to do it????????? No one seems to mention this on the other threads????????
I’m going to try it again, probably wont work this time????????

Dont lose heart we have all been there – if you use Flickr it will work at 800px wide Your url should look like this – this is one of your pics from your messages

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3507/3251467924_459230ed4d.jpg

copy from flickr and paste into your message then in front of the text put

if you click preview in message you can check if it works before you post – once happy click submit

should then work

I’m going to take a break now. My brain can only take so much computer stuff in one go!!!!!!
The pics I’ve posted so far are of our first born son, Kevin; a Cormorant, (a favourite of my wife’s not mine); and Christmas tree decorations. The baby socks are embroided using Kevin and Luke’s maternanal great grandmother’s thread.

I’m getting the message that people think it is better to use URL addresses from flickr than use the, “photoimage”, site from the “Add image to post”, link beloow the text box. If that is so why is this link there? Also what is so good about the flicker system than the photoimage system, whrn it comes to P.I.

If anybody has used Elements they may have used, “Showcase”, to share photos on line. It is easy to use from elements can it be used to get the URL address the same as flickr is used??????????????????

To share my state of mental tierdness with you can anybody tell me

WHAT DOES URL STAND FOR???????????????

James,

I corrected an image of your above of the Xmas tree. If you edit (there is an edit button top right of the post) the post
you can see what I used to get it to work and compare against your version.

A URL is essentially the link itself, eg https://www.photographyireland.net is a URL.

Hope this helps. Stick with it and you’ll get the hang of it, honest :)

Hi all

Another beginner to this! :-) Just trying out if I can post an image from the Kodak online gallery in Adobe Photoshop Elements 7.

The URL works to bring up the photo on Internet Explorer, but I’m not seeing it on Preview.

If it doesn’t come up, any suggestions welcome…
