Twin Lens Reflex ?

excessive bulk and padding
In real life its actually a fairly small bag. Ive dropped allot of cameras and lenses over the years and have learnt to use proper well padded and splash proof bags.
Depends though, I do allot of hiking, if your just walking around the streets maybe its a bit excessive alright but for me definitely not…

damien.murphyParticipantI may have been a little critical :)
Looking at your pics again, you’re right, it doesn’t seem so big.. and an interesting thought, bringing the Rollei hiking.. I do regret not being able to get out of the the city too much these days..
In any case, I think the Rollei is just the excuse I’ve been looking to pickup up the Domke F-5XB. With the F-5XA, this pair have always seemed perfect for a one/ two body rangefinder or compact film slr set-up, and with this also taking the Rollei, I am glad to have the perfect excuse to buy (yet) another camera bag :)

damien.murphyParticipantRolleicord came on Saturday, and just putting a first roll of film through it at the moment. It came sans-lenscap, and am hoping the spares I ordered last week will arrive soon :)
In all, it’s a beautuful little machine – even with its battle scars (some chipped paint at the back of the camera). I was surprised at how compact it was – for some reason I suspected it would be bigger. Bag-wise it’s great, as it is so compact it will fit in my existing bags with just enough room for a few rolls of film and my tiny meter.
The screen was a little dim when at first, but by cleaning the mirror and screen myself (lens cleaning fluid, cotton buds, and a final wipe of a lenscloth) it has improved quite a bit. The viewfinder is not the brightest in the world, but far from the dimmest, and the image on the ground glass is quite 3-dimensional and snaps into focus relatively well.
Oh, don’t believe any of the nonsense out there about the remove-ability of the viewfinder on the different Rolleicord models – they are all removeable, but many, like my Rolleicord VA, require you to remove 4 small screws to remove the viewfinder to access the focussing screen and camera mirror.
The horizontally reversed image in the viewfinder will take a little getting used to, and is helping me slow down a bit when I’m shooting (which is good), but definitely welcome any advice in adjusting to a reversed viewfinder, which is still a little unnatural to me at the moment.
I like the exposure system too, which like the program mode on a DSLR will allow me to fool around with different aperture/ shutter combinations easily for the same EV, as well as offering the usual flexibility of manual.
Anywho, more film first, and then some negative scanning!
Thanks for all the advice to date,
Damien
