Hi,
Im a complete beginner and am just palying with a few tools (HDR in this one). Ill be booking myself into a course with digital beginners but this is my first attempt. Hope its ok!!
PeteTheBlokeMemberNice photo. I like it. The verticals look distinctly off – you may consider using a
spirit level on your camera. I’d also consider a letter-box type crop for this
one as the large black area is a bit surplus at the top and the single reflected light
bottom right looks kinda random (as my kids would say).aidotimmoParticipantThanks for the feeback. Ill give your advice a bash tonight and see how i get on!!
aidotimmoParticipantkenhParticipantGreat improvement Aidan – really like the very strong contrasts – a lovely shot!

give you some pointers. I’ve rotated it by one degree, but it could probably
do with a fraction more. I cropped and then tried to clone the watermark out.aidotimmoParticipantLooks a much more pleasant photo thanks. Think the Cropping is just right. That wasn’t a watermark, it actually says that over the Liffey!! HAHA!! Thanks for all the feeback Pete!!

Thanks for the lovely comment Ken
you areb welcome – I think this shot would look very well blown up as a wall covering – now that’s atmosphere for a room!

aidotimmoParticipantI had thought of getting it blown up and put onto canvas alright. I have an 7ft x 5ft canvas of New York in my sitting room!! its HUGE!! Think this would work well in my hall though!! Reckon ill revisit the location and try a few more shots to get it just right!!
richiehatchMemberIf I where revisiting this shot I would try to get there at around dusk (around 10:25pm at this time of year) or later so that there is a wee bit of light in the sky. Also then that bit of light might be reflected in the water in the foreground. To me the original shot is a bit to contrasty. Too much black i think. I look forward to seeing your revisited attempt…!
Richie
PitmaticMemberI agree with richie shooting with some light left in the sky would really lift this a treat and reduces the contrast not only that it does look more polished
aidotimmoParticipantThanks, ill give it a go this weekend and post again next week. I did however, want to take a completely dark night shot because i have a place for it in mind to hang in my house. the room is Black and white and so only dark contrasting colours will work but i appreciate the feedback because i am a complete beginner and only learning so all of yuor opinions are greatly appreciated. Keep them coming!!
