Can anyone tell me how to Uninstall Mc Afee anti-virus software from my laptop? I used it a while ago and then changed to avg free, but can not Uninstall the Mc Afee now, everytime I turn on the laptop, I get the annoying pop-up asking me to verify :( my subscription.? Have tried the usual uninstall instructions. JWP :(
PeteTheBlokeMemberIf you think it’s hard to get McAfee off, you should try getting Norton off. Viruses are much easier to remove!
I assume you’ve done Control Panel->Add Remove Programs->McAfee->Remove ?
If not, then that’s your first step. After that, it gets messy. You may have to do a manual uninstall – which seems to be the norm for Norton these days.
Let me know and I’ll try to help.
ValentiaMemberThis may be of some help. Sounds complicated though :( http://ts.mcafeehelp.com/faq.asp?frames=1&docid=597&CategoryId=84110&chat=
JWPParticipantThanks for that Guys! Yes, I tried the usuall Control Panel> uninstall…….it didn’t work, but I think I got it sorted, I rang the guys in the local computer store who told me to try this….Start> Run> type in “msconfig” and unclick anything that had McAfee on it, then restart. You must restart once for every one you unclick… and do this for all users. Seems to have worked,
Thanks a million..fairly new to this site and find it great for problems like this.
June :lol: :)JWPParticipantForgot one thing, after typing in “ms config” click the startup tab then unclick the McAfee/Norton ! Maybe it will help with the Norton.
It might not be uninstalled but if it stops the annoying pop-up every time I’ll settle for that! June

Step 1: Throw laptop in bin
Step 2: Buy a Mac
Step 3: Enjoy the nice warm feeling and smug look on your face
lol
Sorry… I really must stop being so sarcastic, and start being more helpful…

MikeanywhereParticipantI just did control panel/uninstall programms etc and went through and clicked all of the and left the Security Centre one till last. Spam (if memoery serves me right) version had to have a restart and then once the last one was done it had to be restarted again but all done without any problems whatsoever.
