Big FellaParticipant
Finally managed to get out today for a while. Took this lad at the beach C&C welcome and also ID
Stephen.
nfl-fanParticipantMy first guess is a Mistle Thrush Stephen.. but that’s just a guess and I’m not sure if the beak is a match.
I’m going to double check when I finish typing this thread.
Can’t say I’ve ever seen one in the flesh. Nice one.
J
Big FellaParticipantnfl-fanParticipantLooking at the two entries in the PI Book of Birds the spots on the breast and belly are way more defined than those in the above.
Where’s BlokeThePete when you need him.
Big FellaParticipantMikkaParticipantrc53MemberVery nice photos. My closest match was a Meadow Pipit, but I’m no expert.
shutterbugParticipantMeadow Pipit was my first instinct, but they are very similar
to Skylarks, what kind of size was it? If it was as big as a
blackbird then its not a Pipit but it doesnt look that big, maybe
slightly bigger than a sparrow?Big FellaParticipantThanks for the replys all.

Stephen
guthrijParticipantAlan RossiterParticipantI’d go with pipit too but there’s a few different types. I’d go for rock pipit. The tawny pipit is less common so probably not that.
Could be a juvenile robin ;-). Where’s JB when you want him!!
Noely FParticipantPadraigParticipantIts a Rock Pipit (Anthus petrosus) alright. Common all around the Irish coast. Its legs are darker than the Meadow Pipits and its bill is longer.
nfl-fanParticipantYep.. agree Rock Pipit.. that’s what I meant to say earlier , Mistle Thrush was a typo :P
Big FellaParticipantThanks for all the replys everyone, the Rock Pipit seems to be the closest match. I have put in a link below.
