I think any decent person would have done the same Joseph.

Parvo is more common in puppies, and is mostly fatal. It’s not as common in older dogs, and they are treating him, so perhaps there is some hope.

That’s bad news, Parvo used to be terminal. It’s so sad to hear of such neglect of any animal, let alone a toy(?) dog that could have been full of fun and pride. I must relate this to my wife and our Cocker Spaniel when I go home.

    Hi Sinead,

I skimmed over the post when I saw the title at first but I came back to it. What a poor little pooch:0( It’s outrageous that this little pet’s owners can get away with this and they living a stones throw away and you after notifying the police etc. Completely unacceptable.

Just saw this…….damn shame……in our parts i have heard there are a ton of animals being tossed by the wayside because the people can’t afford to keep them. Pets are becoming disposable…..
We got our Golden Retriever from a local rescue, she turned out to be a grand old pup. You did a good thing there Jess

I always struggle with this. Unless a dog is unwell, there is usually limited costs in keeping them. I think owner attitudes are more of a causation.

Fair play to you Sinead for all your effort; too many people turn a blind
eye to distressed or abandonned animals…

I hope that they manage to treat the Parvo successfully. Do keep us informed…

Thanks all for the replies to this thread. It’s interesting to hear your thoughts on this.

Re the issue with the Police, it’s the way the system works, they can’t do anything about it,
until they are contacted by the USPCA. Obviously the USPCA need to be satisfied they know
who the owners are before they do anything.
Even then, I’m not sure how this case would go. It’s clear he has been neglected, but how can
it be proved someone has been cruel?

I do think they will get involved now.

I’d agree with Tim’s point re costs of owning a pet, in my experience it’s not a lot.
But it does seem with the recession, that pets are one thing that lots of people are willing to,
    literarally, push to the side…

I don’t have any further updates on how the little guy is doing.
I do know everyone has their fingers crossed for him though.

hi jess, just saw this post and feel sick. there are some very sad people out there. i have a thee year old westie, who i got about a ear and a half ago, and the eve we got him he was in a similar state to your boy. i had to take him to the groomer the following morning and have him shaved, took him t the vets for his jabs etc and she said he had probably never had any. now he is justa spoiled rotten dog, who sleeps on the end of my bed, sits on my knee if he doesnt get enough attention lol. ii hope your wee lad has recovered from this and is on the road to recovery. if he were stuck for a bed he could share mine with jock… well done you for caring enough to do something.

    Hi Jess

that poor little dog – I could cry. A girl I know volunteers for a group in Dublin – http://www.dogsindistress.org. I have one of their calendars in my kitchen and they have “before” and “after” pictures and the transformations have been amazing.

Just wondering if you have any more updates on this little fella. Could he be in a puppy farm I wonder. I just cannot understand how people can abuse these little gorgeous dogs.

I hope this story has a happier ending.

To be honest, I don’t know what has happened this little guy, the person within the USPCA I’d been speaking to has been
off, and no one else can seem to help. Somehow though, I don’t feel there is a happy ending here.
They are grossly underfunded and under staffed up here.

Helen – I don’t think he was in a puppy farm, I think his owners just didn’t give a damn about him.

I’ve thought about him every day.
